Preview: UFC 305: Du Plessis vs Adesanya

UFC 305

UFC 305 kicks off this weekend, and anticipation is at an all-time high as future Hall-of-Fame striker and former Middleweight champion, Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya, squares off against the South African champion, Dricus “Still Knocks” Du Plessis. As fight fans from across the world pour into the city of Perth, Australia, one can only imagine the electricity permeating the airwaves in the days leading up to Saturday night.

After suffering a loss to former champion Sean Strickland almost a year ago, Israel Adesanya makes his long-awaited return to the octagon, where he aims to make UFC history as one of the only fighters to become a three-time champion under the company’s banner. Even with this Middleweight clash between Dricus and Izzy being the focus of UFC 305, the UFC has still meticulously crafted an incredible undercard of talented fighters from across the world.

The main card of UFC 305 kicks off with a Welterweight bout between rising star Carlos “The Nightmare” Prates taking on fan favorite and UFC veteran Jingliang Li, aka “The Leech.” Carlos Prates burst onto the UFC scene, winning all three of his fights by way of knockout and looks to continue his winning streak come Saturday night. The Leech, on the other hand, is returning to action after enduring a gruesome back injury that left him sidelined for the last year. With his sights set on a run at the 170-pound title, Li is optimistic that he will have no problem securing a victory in his return to the octagon.

Moving up the card, we see a pair of heavyweights face off as the always entertaining Tai Tuivasa takes on the veteran striker Jairzinho Rozenstruik. This matchup is the tale of two careers as Tai aims to snap his multiple-fight losing streak, while Jairzinho looks to make it two in a row with a win on Saturday night. Regardless of who emerges victorious, fans are in for an absolute banger of a fight.

Next up, we move to the Lightweight division as Dan Hooker takes on Mateusz Gamrot. With his #5 ranking on the line, Gamrot has no intentions of losing his next bout; however, beating a durable and crafty veteran like Dan Hooker is certainly no walk in the park.

Then, as we look to the featured co-main event of the evening, we see the hometown guy, Steve Erceg, take on fellow top contender Kai Kara-France. Erceg, fresh off a close decision loss to the current flyweight champion, aims to get back to the title with a win at UFC 305.

Lastly, the long-awaited main event is one that needs no explanation. Whether you are on the side of the current champion in Dricus Du Plessis or rooting for the longtime superstar in Israel Adesanya, fans can expect a high-level, action-packed fight for as long as it lasts!
