UFC 295, a timeline look as to how we got here

UFC 295

Originally, this weekend we would’ve been looking forward to a double retirement matchup at UFC 295 in Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic for the Heavyweight title. The rumours were that the winner would retire, and the loser would retire.

However, it was not to be as Jon Jones pulled out via an injury and the fight was scrapped only to be replaced by Sergei Pavlovich vs Tom Aspinall with the interim title on the line.

Many begrudged Stipe Miocic of not staying on the card, however, it emerged that the UFC never offered it to him as it would be “disrespectful.” It’s strange to open with the co main over the main event, but for this event, thats where the storyline lays.

On to the main event, Jiří Procházka will take on Alex Pereira for the vacant light heavyweight title, the third vacant light heavyweight title fight in a row. When Jamahal Hill vacated the belt due to injury, it was apparent that Jiří Procházka would return to fight for the belt he once lost too.

Alex Pereira fought Jan Błachowicz at UFC 291, the winner looked set to fight Jiří Procházka for the belt, as Pereira came through, the fight was all but set.
